Women’s Rights Medica Mondial

For centuries, women have had to struggle to live with the same rights as men. But today, women’s equality has gained significant momentum. Women’s suffrage, equal pay, and political representation are among the great strides that have been made. But in some areas, we still have a long way to go before we reach gender parity.

Historically, many of the issues central to women’s rights have been highly controversial. Allowing women to attend college? That would shrink their reproductive organs! Employing them for wages outside the home? That would destroy families! Casting votes in national elections? That would give them too much power! In fact, even when women’s issues are highly popular and widely supported, they can still face enormous resistance.

Women’s rights advocates have to be very persistent and creative in order to achieve their goals. They need to find the right arguments and make them convincingly. They have to challenge old ways of thinking and prevailing attitudes towards women that are often rooted in patriarchal traditions. They also need to provide the evidence that shows how denying women their human rights and fundamental freedoms harms society as a whole.

The women’s rights movement is a very diverse field, with many organisations that address specific aspects of it. These organisations are often based in different countries and work with governments, civil society and the private sector to promote change. Many of them focus on changing attitudes towards women, but some also work for legislative reform. They have to make the case that laws should be held to a higher standard, in terms of their impact on women’s equality.

Medica mondiale works to empower women to take a more active role in achieving their own rights. This includes providing the skills and tools to help them make changes within their communities and in wider society. In addition, we work to help them understand the roots of these problems and how they can be addressed. We believe that it is only by enabling women to access their full range of rights – including land ownership rights, the ability to control their own money and assets, a good quality education, freedom from violence, access to healthcare and opportunities for economic growth – that true equality can be achieved.

In the United States, a recent poll showed that 57% of Americans think that we haven’t yet gone far enough to give women equal rights with men. However, the percentage who say that we have gone too far is smaller than it was a year ago. The ACLU is working in courts and legislatures around the country to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that our Constitution and laws guarantee everyone in this country, including women’s right to equality. You can join the fight to protect women’s rights by making a donation today. Together, we can make sure that the rights of every person are respected and defended. We all benefit when they are.
